Many companies still do animal testing to this day, and even worse, they try to hide it. It has not been banned in the US because many people argue that it is actually good because of how it makes whatever we create safe and good to consume or use. This is actually not true, in many occasions, animals react different to humans when exposed to the same substance. This leads to inaccurate estimates of real-world hazards.
Even though there are many organisations fighting to put a stop to animal testing, there are still a large amount of companies that test on animals. But when laws like the ones china just passed, allowing companies to import cosmetics without the need for animal testing, things look like it could improve in the future. Sure, not manny animals are endangered because of animal testing, but a good lot are on the way to it. Just because an animal isn't endangered doesn't mean it doesn't need to be protected. Everyday, more that 100 million animals are killed in labs or classrooms all in the name of research.
